UPDATE: *Turns out it was all a joke, ya'll! Joss was just kidding around and the internet exploded, with me catching some of the shrapnel!*
Today at the Joss Whedon panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, the director confirmed that Nathan Fillion will be starring as Hank "Ant-Man" Pym in The Avengers. This follows
weeks of speculation and rumor dropping, with even rumors that
Adrien Brody would be taking on the role. Fillion will be teaming up again with Whedon, who he worked with on the TV show
Firefly and its big screen spinoff,
Serenity. The pair also joined up as part of Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog most recently. Edgar Wright's solo Ant-Man is in the planning stages, meaning that Fillion is the likely guy for that film as well.
This makes it more likely that Fillion will be on stage with the rest of the star studded cast when the Marvel movie panel is held tomorrow. The question now is whether or not they'll sign Mark Ruffalo in time for the event. Rumors are that Marvel is anxiously trying to tie things up with him so he can be flown in by the time of the panel. The sticking point? Money, of course.!
