I love The Playlist, but I'll be damned if they aren't throwing rumors against every possible wall today. The latest one is pretty far out. Well, some of it is. The rest is very believable. First, the wackness...
Tony Scott is on the list of directors to helm X-men Origins: Wolverine 2. Seriously. No point in waiting for Bryan Singer to finish up his other obligations and come back, the way some have speculated. No point in getting someone...I dunno...young and familiar with comics.
Scott is rumored to be one of the final two directors on Fox's shortlist. The other being Matt Reeves. Reeves is probably best known for directing Cloverfield a couple of years ago. He's got Let Me In, the remake of the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In, due to hit theaters in the coming months. Reeves seems like a more logical choice.
Scott and Reeves were part of a longer list of candidates that included Kathryn Bigelow(The Hurt Locker), Timur Bekmambetov(Wanted), and Daniel Espinosa(Snabba Cash). All were supposedly approached by 20th Century Fox about the gig.
Sure. Because I can see Bigelow taking her The Hurt Locker success and rolling it over to some mutant claw action. I don't think so. Scott also just seems way off. If this rumor has any validity, I have to believe that Fox was simply throwing offers out to everybody on their Dream List.
Take all this as extreme rumor for now. I think there might be a kernel of truth to the Matt Reeves bit. Don't be surprised if you hear something more concrete on that in the next few days and weeks.
