Who exactly is the "holy trinity" of DC Comics? There's Superman, of course. Then the dark knight, Batman. Both have seen their fair share of movies: some good, some awful. The one who never really got their shot is perhaps the one with the most interesting backstory: Wonder Woman. Rumors of a film adaptation for the Amazonian have been circulating for years(Megan Fox donning the tiara?). Back in May, Warner Brothers announced plans to push ahead with films featuring some of their lower tier characters. I'd argue that Wonder Woman doesn't fit in that category, but her history doesn't lie. She's just never reached the success of her male counterparts.
Earlier today there was a story involving the upcoming Superman reboot, and that David Goyer was a top contender to direct the film. That's still true, but there might be another superhero property causing him to drop out, as it's being rumored that an announcement regarding his involvement in a Wonder Woman film will be made at some time during Comic-Con. Whether it'll be as writer or director or both isn't known. The plan is to have the film released by 2013.
Goyer is basically "The Man" when it comes to comic book films. Not only did he spearhead the entire Blade trilogy, but he's also had a hand to play in both of Christopher Nolan's Batman films, Ghost Rider, X-men Origins: Magneto, and plenty more such as the script for Batman 3. Don't even get me started on his non-comics work.
This would be huge, and it's about time Wonder Woman got the respect she deserves. To most people, Iron Man was a B-level character in the Marvel Universe before his movies came out and changed everyone's perception of him. Here's hoping the same gets done for her.
The Playlist has the story, which you can check out here.
