And now for the second half of my year end list...on with the show!
5. Inception
Without a doubt the most original movie of the year, this one had me blown away on so many different levels. While it make take a minute or two to piece together what was actually going on it's totally worth it. Add to that the only ending of a movie in which the entire theater collectively said 'WHAAAAATTT" and you have a winner.
4. The Fighter
Lead by my choice for best supporting actor of the year in Christian Bale, The Fighter, is a pseudo-documentary about a boxer from Boston trying for his last chance of glory. His decision of whether to stay loyal to his family and stay off the radar or ditch his family and find fame is one of the best plot devices of the year.
3. How to Train Your Dragon
I'm one of the few critics that usually refrains from listing childrens movies on my top 10 lists. It's not that I don't like them, quite the opposite as a matter of fact, but I never really hold them up to non-animated films. That being said I've watched this movie probably 6 times since I got the DVD and it holds up every time. Amazing fun, a great story and beautiful animation.
2. The Town
This movie is right up my alley, bank robbery, guns, violence, and plenty of tense moments. I was skeptical of the comparisons to The Departed but at this point I'm hard pressed to tell you what the better movie is. Jeremy Renner, who has a main role in this film, solidified his place in my book as my favorite underrated actor.
1. The Social Network
I'll admit it freely, the first time I saw this flick I thought it was a great movie... not the greatest just great. However something crazy happened the second time I saw it I noticed something I missed the first time, just how great it was, how the entire film from performances to soundtrack to dialouge all come together perfectly to form a singularly amazing film. Even if you've never used Facebook you'll like this movie, there is no question.
and there you have it folks, ten movies that if you haven't seen you need to see. Enjoy and stick with us for the best of the movie world in the new year!
