A return to form for Tom Hanks? I was just saying last night that it's been forever since I thought of Hanks as an A-list, consistent Academy Award threat. Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hanks premiered a clip from his new comedy, Larry Crowne, which sees him reteaming with his Charlie Wilson's War(it's been four years already!!?) co-star, Julia Roberts. Crowne also marks the 2nd directorial effort by Hanks and his first since 1996's That Thing You Do! Check out the clip below...
Hanks stars as a middle aged man who attempts to reinvent his life after being terminated from his job. He does this by going back to college and forging a relationship with one of his professors(Roberts). The script was written by Hanks and Nia Vardalos(My Big Fat Greek Wedding), who also has a cameo in the film.
I think even Hanks acknowledges in the clip that this is a formulaic set up, but it's good to see him back on screen, not just the use of his voice(like in Toy Story 3). Larry Crowne is due to hit thaters on July 1st, 2011. What do you think? Is Tom Hanks back? Thanks to Cinematical for the heads up on this clip!
