Rumor: How Ridley Scott's Aliens factor in to Prometheus

Our homie Brendon Connelly over at BleedingCool put on his investigative reporter's hat(with his press credentials buried in the brim) and spoke to an inside source about all the questions that have been swirling around Prometheus, Ridley Scott's "Alien prequel/original concept" whatever you wanna call it.  Brendon gets right to the point by answering the question we all have: How do the aliens we all know and love fit in to Prometheus?

"Quite simply: it has the Alien aliens in it. The catch, though, is that you might not recognise them – at least, not at first."

That part confused me for a second until I thought about it, and there is in fact a recognizable difference between the creatures we see in Alien and the ones we get later on. Brendon elaborates...

"Remember how the alien took on canine qualities after gestating in a dog? You may even suppose that the first film’s alien was so recognisably humanoid because it had grown in a human. The same applies here: generation by generation, the creature mutates. As Prometheus begins, the xenomorph is not too recognisable. Sure, it has that alien DNA that Scott and Fassbender teasingly referred to, but it’s missing… well, it’s missing human DNA. Or dog DNA."

So what we're getting essentially is the Alien before it becomes what we all know and love. There could be many more evolutionary stages of the Alien we get to see, which is a cool idea.

He also learned that the setting of the film will be a terraformed planet established solely for the purpose of creating a perfect bioweapon. Terraformed by who? The Space Jockeys? Is the weapon the Alien? Seems likely, in my opinion.

The film's title, Prometheus, always seemed like a perfect fit, as it relates to the Greek god that first gave fire to man, which ended up being both a gift and a curse to them. If this truly is about the creation of a perfect species, that same idea could apply. The alien might've been created for good but spun wildly out of control. I'm purely speculating here, of course, but it's only because the next thing Brendon notes bothers me a little...

I did ask if the film is really going to be called Prometheus. The answer? “Maybe not. Though they are calling it that for a reason.”

What can I say? I dig the name. It's the mythology fan in me.  As with most rumors about Prometheus, none of this is rock solid until we get something official, but what Brendon dug up makes sense to me. Expect many more such stories and more gossip to fly over the coming months.  Thanks again to the folks at BleedingCool for all the hard work.
