Scorsese and DiCaprio teaming up again for The Wolf of Wall Street

There might not be a better director/actor tandem working today than Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Dicaprio. The two have done four movies together, most recently last year's Shutter Island, and all have been either critical or financial successes. The two look to be pairing up again on The Wolf of Wall Street, based on Jordan  Belfort's memoir about his sex and drug-fueled time as a slash and burn stock broker. The script was written by Terence Winter, who has been working alongside Scorsese on HBO's Boardwalk Empire.

Right now Scorsese's still slogging through Hugo Cabret, his 3D adventure film, which is set to release in December. He's already got major studio projects lined up, such as The Irishman, which looks like it might bring back Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci.  The Wolf of Wall Street is different, though, as Scorsese is prepping it as an independent film away from the slow moving studio process. He'll be producing along with DiCaprio's Appian Way, claiming the rights after they left Warner Brothers. Ridley Scott had been briefly attached to possibly direct the film at that time.

Anything that gets Dicaprio and Scorsese working together again is worth poppin' champagne over. I was a huge fan of Shutter Island, and felt like Dicaprio's performance was severely overlooked in awards season. That film marked a new visual style for Scorsese as well, proving that it's never too late to learn some new tricks.
