* Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is set to kick witch butt and chew bubble gum, starting on the freshly announced release date of March 2nd 2012. MGM, fresh out of bankruptcy and looking to spend, are now co-financing the Jeremy Renner/Gemma Arterton flick which sees the fairy tale siblings as grown up bounty hunters.
* With MGM looking to jump back into the game(as noted above), they're looking to invest in highly recognizable tentpoles. And so the studio is digging through the dust bin of 1980s history for their upcoming slate.
Variety reports that revamps of
Mr. Mom
,
Robocop
,
The Idolmaker
,
Poltergeist
, and a
Hercules project are on the table. Robocop has had Darren Aronofsky attached to it forever. Poltergeist would presumably be the fourth in the series if not a complete reboot. New ideas, anyone?
* I've been a little worried about David Cronenberg's
Cosmopolis
lately. With Colin Farrell splitting in favor of Robert Pattinson, then Marion Cotillard and Keira Knightley turning away, I've pretty much been left with only the presence of Paul Giamatti as the saving grace. Now I have a few more reasons to be positive, as Juliette Binoche has joined in an unclear role. Mathieu Almaric, so good in
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
, is also rumored to be involved. Lastly, Howard Shore will be producing the film's score. Ok, I can relax again.
