I know we always talk about the glut of bad, uninspired movies out there, but I think it's time we start holding the book world responsible as well. For every lousy, generic romantic comedy we see there's about a dozen equally trite novels just waiting to be adapted. Such as the adaptation of Something Borrowed, based on Emily Giffin's 2004 book about yet another hot, unhappy single lady(Ginnifer Goodwin) who agonizes over the impending marriage between her snooty best friend(Kate Hudson) and the man she's had a crush on for years. >sigh< Check it....
Maybe the title is a fairly obvious joke because Something Borrowed takes liberally from the Kate Hudson Guide to Lousy Rom-Coms. Mean-spirited female characters, bland dudes who might as well be flower pots, and a general sense that I've seen this crap a billion times before. Movies like this make women look awful. Travis Hopson: noted feminist.
Luke Greenfield(The Girl Next Door) directed, with Hilary Swank tossing in a few sheckles as a producer. This looks like one of those movies she probably passed on years ago. Something Borrowed hits theaters on May 6th, so if you're into this sorta thing keep an eye out.
