Tops at the Box Office

1. Battle: Los Angeles- $36M
If the budget for Jonathan Liebesman's massive extraterrestrial war film is truly $70M, then somebody's very happy right now. After nearly a year of hype and speculation which has seen archival footage mixed with tons of city wide destruction, the film kicked the butt of the most recent alien takeover flick, Skyline($11M), even without the benefit of a true A-list star.
2. Rango- $23.1M/$68.7M
Johnny Depp's animated lizard held strong, dropping a standard 40% from last week. But with an estimated $135M budget it remains to be seen whether or not it earns a profit. Hopefully it does because I want more movies as unique as this one.

3. Red Riding Hood- $14.1M
Opening far lower than expected, Catherine Hardwicke's second foray into the world of werewolves(she directed Twilight) opened with a whimper rather than a howl.  Part of that might have had something to do with the perception this was Twilight-lite, which turned off anyone not already a fan of the genre.
4. The Adjustment Bureau- $11.5M/$38.5M

5. Mars Needs Moms- $6.8M
Ouch! The final film from Robert Zemeckis's motion-capture studio(The Polar Express, Monster House) went out on a disastrous note.  Even with the added bonus of 3D, families still totally avoided this stale looking, generic sci-fi romp. It didn't help that Disney barely marketed it, and when they did couldn't find a way to define it to audiences.
6. Hall Pass- $5.11M/$34.9M
7. Beastly- $5.09M/$17M
8. Just Go With It- $4M/$94M
9. The King's Speech- $3.63M/$129M
10. Gnomeo & Juliet- $3.55M/$89M
