Juan Carlos Fresnadillo confirmed to direct The Crow reboot

It's been a couple of months since we started hearing about Juan Carlos Fresnadillo(28 Weeks Later) as a possibility to helm Relativity's reboot of The Crow. Now today they've confirmed it via a press release. The film has seen sortof a twisty path to reaching this point. Stephen Norrington(Blade) had been attached to direct as far back as 2008, with Nick Cave(The Proposition) rewriting his script. That all crumbled when an actor came aboard(rumored to be Mark Wahlberg) who threw everything out of wack. He wanted a new script from a different writer. Norrington and Cave bailed, and eventually so did Wahlberg. Square one, baby.

The original Crow film follows a murdered rock musician(played by the late Brandon Lee) who returns from the dead as an avenging spirit. The Norrington/Cave version would've been a slight twist on the formula, giving the Crow spirit an actual creature with a personality. The setting also would've been changed to the southwest.

Relativity's press release notes that Fresnadillo will be assisting with the script once a writer has been named, so don't count on anything from the Norrington/Cave script to stick around. They'll probably start from scratch.
