Keanu Reeves reveals possible Bill & Ted 3 plot details; script still six weeks away
If I had to pick a nostalgia piece to be revisited from the 1980s, Bill & Ted would rank somewhere near the bottom of my list. Not that the first film, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, was bad. I loved it. It's just I felt like the 1991 sequel, Bogus Journey, fell flat and wrapped up everything I really need to see from the slacker duo personified by Keanu Reeves and the now forgotten Alex Winter. Last year, talk of a third film really started to heat up, with Reeves admitting to being open to the idea. But really, is this a movie everybody's dying to see? I don't know, but it looks like it's going to happen whether we want it or not.
While talking to MTV, Reeves states that the original Bill & Ted screenwriters, Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, are about six weeks away from turning in a draft. That doesn't mean it'll be any good, though. At least Reeves doesn't sound like he'll be pulling a Bill Murray/Ghostbusters 3 deal and not reading the darn thing. He even seems to have a few details on what the story will entail...
Reeves: “When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened. So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”
Whether any of this amounts to anything we'll just have to wait and see. Bill & Ted was a cult fave, but most young people probably haven't even heard of it. So how big of an audience would a threequel really have? Probably not much.
I'm sure Alex Winter could use the work, though.
