Most of the primary casting for Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman launch has been completed. Relative unknown Henry Cavill will don the red and blue tights, Amy Adams is Lois Lane, while Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are Ma & Pa Kent. The biggest remaining question remains who the villain(or villains) will be that Superman is squaring off against. Recently, Zack Snyder revealed that his film will be a complete relaunch with no ties to the Richard Donner Superman movies from the 80s, and definitely no links to Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. That left the field of possible bad guys wide open.
We've heard pretty much every name from the Superman rogues' gallery thrown out there, with even some actor names attached. The two main possibilities appear to be General Zod, the evil Kryptonian seen in Donner's Superman: The Movie. And then there's also Ursa, one of Zod's loyal followers. Names like Viggo Mortensen, Edgar Ramirez, Michael Shannon, Rosamund Pike, Diane Kruger, and Alice Eve have all been mentioned as possibilities for whoever the villain turns out to be. Movienewz has reportedly been contacted by an "inside source" who has shed some light on who the villain is, as well as given a detailed description of the film's final plot. First, the villain reveal...
General Sam Lane, the father of Lois Lane, is a central figure in director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. This really is as Zack described in several interviews about the film, a “real world” Superman. I’m told that when Superman arrives on the scene; people don’t know what to think. He’s an alien from another planet. What are his real intentions? He’s not human and that scares a lot of people. Here’s a guy who can fly, see through walls, is bullet proof and can lift a tank. The military views him as a potential threat to national security. They find kryptonite, pieces of his home planet, and discover its radioactive elements can be harnessed as a near unlimited source of power, both literally and figuratively. It’s a brand new form of energy that is secretly developed by the government. The military, under the direction of General Sam Lane, uses kryptonite to power an experimental cyborg super solider named Metallo. He’s ultimately exploited as a weapon against Superman.
In the modern age of comics, Metallo is a kryptonite-powered cyborg created by Professfor Emmet Vale to crush Superman. Vale believed that Superman was the first in a wave of alien invaders sent to take over the planet. Sounds a lot like the above description, doesn't it? Metallo actually would be a perfect first enemy for Superman to battle. A melding of human/non-human opponents would play to the internal struggle he'll be wrestling with. Plus it leaves the door open for other villains to play peripheral roles, such as Lex Luthor(who must factor in somewhere), and if Snyder wanted to set up Zod or other Kryptonians for future films, they'd fit right in as well.
Movienewz also has what they is the film's plot synopsis, which indicates that this will indeed be another origin story, but maybe a bit more introspective than others have been up to this point...
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.
These are all rumors for now, of course. Nobody really knows what Snyder and Christopher Nolan have in store, but none of this stuff sounds all that far fetched, does it? What do you think? Are you excited for Zack Snyder's Superman? Do you like the idea of it being a completely new franchise and not connected to the previous films?
