* Deep breath. Those worrying that
Attack the Block, the sci-fi/comedy fave of everyone who saw it at SXSW wouldn't make it to our shores can relax. Sony has scooped up the US rights to Joe Cornish's film about a street gang defending their neighborhood against an alien invasion. Screen Gems will distribute. Hip hip hooray! If you missed the two clips of the movie we ran the other day, check 'em out
here.
* One of my favorite character actors has just joined one of the movies I'm most eagerly looking forward to.
Variety reports William Fichtner(
Drive Angry 3D
) is in talks to join
Elysium, Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi follow up to
District 9
. The film currently stars Jodie Foster, Matt Damon, Wagner Moura(
Woman on Top
), and Sharlto Copley.
* Proving that a new director is always right around the corner, earlier today we learned that
Wayne Kramer had backed out of directing Sylvester Stallone's upcoming cop drama,
Headshots. And just a few short hours later
Deadline is reporting that Sly is personally recruiting Walter Hill to take over. Hill is a legend in my eyes, having directed both
The Warriors
("come out and plaaayyyy!!" and
48 Hours
. His most recent directorial gig was the 2002 prison boxing drama,
Undisputed
, starring Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames. A movie quite dig. Nothing is signed yet, and the story notes that a number of other candidates are in the mix. Fingers crossed Hill gets the job.
