* Paramount's been trying to get a James Brown biopic together ever since the Godfather of Soul passed away in 2006. A number of script rewrites have taken place, but little has actually been done otherwise to get the film off the ground. Spike Lee has been attached to direct almost since the beginning, but who knows if that's still the case or not. But apparently somebody's still got designs on seeing the film get done because his daughter, Dr. Yanna Brown, recently said in an interview that the Brown Estate are looking at Eddie Murphy, Usher, and....wait for it...Chris "Smack a ho" Brown to play the legendary performer.
* Marisa Tomei, Alec Baldwin, Allison Janney, and Thomas Haden Church are set to star in Lucky Them, a comedy from writer/director Huck Botko. I swear that's his real name. The film is about a rock journalist assigned to track down her ex-boyfriend. Lucky Them marks a serious upturn for Botko in terms of budget and potential audience. He wrote/directed the low budget, low laughs comedy The Virginity Hit
* The cast of Adam Shankman's Rock of Ages continues to expand. Russell Brand, who has been rumored to be a part of the rock musical for weeks, has now entered final negotiations. And Variety reports that Mexican singer/actor Diego Boneta impressed Shankman so much he instantly cast him as Drew, a nice guy aspiring rock star. They'll join Tom Cruise, Amy Adams, Paul Giamatti, Mary J. Blige, and Julianne Hough. Shooting is set to begin next month in Florida, with a June 1st, 2012 release date established.
