Tarsem finds his Snow White in Lily Collins

The combination of Julia Roberts and visionary director Tarsem Singh(The Fall, Immortals) is what has me looking forward to his version of Snow White over Rupert Sanders' Snow White and the Huntsman. Roberts has been locked for the Evil Queen for a few weeks now, and recently Armie Hammer(The Social Network) was signed to play Prince Andrew. In that same piece, Saoirse Ronan(Atonement) was said to be closing in on the lead role. Now THR reports, and Relativity confirms that Lily Collins(The Blind Side) will be Snow White.

Ever since she made her film debut in The Blind Side, Collins has seen her stock rise pretty quickly. She'll be seen next in Priest, starring Paul Bettany, and has already finished shooting the Taylor Lautner action vehicle,  Abduction. Obviously, Snow White is an iconic role that could catapult her to stardom pretty quickly if she nails it. Just look at what Alice in Wonderland did for Mia Wasikowska.

The press release from Relativity also confirms that we can stop referring to the film as The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. As it stands right now the film is untitled, but don't expect that to last long.

Brett Ratner, who serves as a producer on the film, commented that this version of the Snow White fairy tale would go back to the original story, making it edgier and capitalizing on plot elements abandoned or changed by the well-known Disney version.  Relativity's description doesn't really support that, but it's hard to say for sure...

Relativity's Snow White, a retelling of one of the most beloved fables of all-time, will eschew the traditional story in favor of a more modern tale full of comedy and adventure. After her evil stepmother kills her father and destroys the kingdom, Snow White bands together with a gang of seven quarrelsome dwarfs to reclaim what is rightly hers.

Shooting is set to begin in Montreal some time in May. The film is due to open in theaters on  June 29, 2012.
