Tron: Legacy sequel already in the works?

I'm not sure what kind of returns Disney was expecting on Tron: Legacy, but with a nearly 30 year wait between movies they ought to be thrilled it cleared nearly $400M at the box office. Sure it cost probably around $300M to produce and market, but still they should be happy. Rumors that Disney was planning to announce a sequel to the Joseph Kosinsinki-directed film have been floating around since January, not long after the film's release, with possible teasers for it on the DVD/Blu-Ray(out this week so buy yours now!).

In the midst of a story from Deadline about Kosinski becoming the highest grossing debut director ever, they pretty flatly state that Disney and the filmmaker are already at work in prepping Tron 3...

But Tron: Legacy's performance certainly gives the studio reason to think it has poured the foundation for a franchise. Disney has begun work on a sequel, which Kosinski is constructing with original writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

So despite not really breaking the bank, Disney is pushing ahead and sticking with Kosinski to do it. I'll be curious to see if they give him a smaller budget this time or if they want to take another pricey gamble.  I'll be waiting for the official thumbs up from Disney on this one.
