Greta Gerwig is a star. Period. I don't think that too often about many of today's young performers but Gerwig has been a scene stealer in literally every film she's been in. Starting out in the "mumblecore" indie film movement in movies like Baghead and LOL, her talents were so obvious that it wasn't long before she made the leap to more mainstream stuff, making her first big splash in Noah Baumbach's Greenberg last year. She was most recently featured in the Arthur remake opposite Russell Brand, where she again kept that comedy from being a flat out disaster. What she hasn't had the chance to do yet is have a film where she is the focal point, but that's now about to change. Variety reports that Gerwig is set to star in Lola Versus, a rom-com that will also feature Orlando Bloom.
Gerwig would star as a woman who is dumped just weeks before her wedding by her college sweetheart , prompting her to embark on a series of encounters in an attempt to discover her place in the world as a single woman before she turns 30.
The film is directed by Daryl Wein, who also co-wrote the script with Zoe Lister-Jones(Breaking Upwards), who also co-stars. For Bloom, this is something of a continuation of his return to the big screen after taking some time off. He's expected to return as the crackshot elf, Legolas, in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. He can currently be seen in Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut, Sympathy for Delicious, and will soon be featured in Paul W. S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers.
Shoot is set to begin in New York in June.
