Sure Shots: Brendan Fraser; Roberto Benigni; Waiting to Exhale 2

* Brendan Fraser has a career more resilient than any zombie could hope to be. A string of awful movies never seems to affect him, and even after a pair of duds like Extraordinary Measures and Furry Vengeance, he's busier than ever. With two movies already in the works, Whole Lotta Sole and Gimme Shelter, Fraser's just added two more historical tales to his slate. He'll be starring in Four Kings, a historical drama from director Damien Lee, set in during the time of the French/Indian War. Then this summer he'll be featured in William Tell 3D, surrounding the folk legend famous for shooting apples off people's heads with his trusty crossbow. That one will be directed by Nick Hurran, and rumors are they're also trying to get Anna Paquin to co-star.

* It's been six years since Roberto Benigni's done anything, with his last film being the little seen The Tiger and the Snow. A couple of years before that he had a hilarious segment in Jim Jarmusch's Coffee and Cigarettes. But really, ever since Benigni's disastrous attempt at Pinocchio, he's been a non-factor on the big screen. With Woody Allen talking up his latest film, Midnight in Paris(I'll see it Wednesday), he's also been spilling the beans on his untitled next movie set in Rome. He's confirmed that Benigni will be a part of the cast in an unspecified role. He'll be joining Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz, Ellen Page, and Jesse Eisenberg.

* Last week while appearing on The Talk to promote her new film, Jumping the Broom, Angela Bassett revealed that Forest Whitaker was currently working on the script for a sequel to 1995's Waiting to Exhale. The film would be based on Terry McMillan's follow-up book, Getting to Happy, which takes a look at the characters fifteen years later. Bassett insinulated that the core cast, including Whitney Houston, Loretta Devine(she's been playing the same role ever since!) and the super sexy Lela Rochon would be returning, presumably with Whitaker again directing. It's still a bit early in the process, but I'd start keeping an eye out for the film some time next year. Waiting to Exhale was a phenomenal success back in '95, maxing out at just over 1400 theaters and earning $81M worldwide.
