30 Day Film Challenge Day 24: Your Favorite Animated or Children's Film

So Chun-Li wasn't given her proper respect in the live-action Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. In fact they helicopter kicked her credibility right out the friggin' window. To see her at her best, fans of the video game vixen need only dig through the $5 anime DVD bins at their local store and dig up 1994's Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.

Fans of the classic arcade brawler will be floored by the opening sequence, a bone crushing battle between the game's two greatest rivals: Ryu and the muay thai master, Sagat. From there the story follows Ryu on his lonely journey, from fight to fight against any number of challengers(Dhalsim and Fei Long among them), and reliving his training alongside his best friend, Ken. The film expands on the world created by the fine folks at Capcom, while also giving the die hards all the action they've been craving.

It's in those intricately detailed brawls that this is an anime above all others. Beautifully choreographed by world class kickboxer, the late Andy Hug, Street Fighter II features what I think is simply the best fight in the history of animated cinema. A fast paced, close quarters scrap between Chun-Li and the masked assassin known as Vega. Unfortunately I couldn't find a suitable video of that fight, but by all means if you're a fan of martial arts movies it's one you'll want to see.
