Tom McCarthy writing supernatural drama, Home Movies, for Dreamworks

Everything Tom McCarthy touches turns to gold. I have a deep love for every one of the films he's written and directed so far, whether it be The Station Agent, The Visitor, or this year's Win Win. He also did some writing on Pixar's Up, which isn't a particular fave of mine. Win Win was by far McCarthy's biggest hit, which isn't saying much since his stuff barely skirts past the level of arthouse. But he's got a couple of things lined up which could catapult him firmly into the mainstream. One is the baseball drama, Million Dollar Arm, which he's working on for Disney. The other is something new, a supernatural film called Home Movies, which he's set to write for Dreamworks.

THR reports that Dreamworks wants McCarthy to pen the script for the film, based on an idea hatched in their own studio. Jared Stern wrote the first draft, but apparently it didn't pass muster. The story would involve a man who is able to revisit past moments in his life through his home movies and make changes.

No word on who'll be heading up this pic, but Shawn Levy(Night at the Museum) is producing, so he seems a likely candidate. Although it sounds like a film that's more up McCarthy's alley. One of his strong suits in every single one of his movies is creating unique family dynamics. Here's hoping Dreamworks looks his way for this one.
