Trailer Time: The Help, starring Emma Stone and Viola Davis

Last year saw Emma Stone really breakthough to become the superstar talent we all knew she could be. Easy A showed her comedic chops(I called her the modern day Goldie Hawn at one point) and ability to captivate in a story focused solely on her. Her latest film, The Help, sends her on an entirely different path.

Based on the 2009 novel by Kathryn Stockett, the film takes place in Mississippi during the racially turbulent 1960s. Stone stars as young writer named Skeeter(sure this isn't the Dukes of Hazzard??), who has returned home to discover that the African-American maid she grew with is no longer there and can't be found. Viola Davis(Doubt) is a maid who has helped raise white children all of her life. Octavia Spencer(Dinner for Schmucks) is a maid with an attitude, with a penchant for backtalk has caused her to be fired from many jobs. The story is told from the perspective of all three women. Basically, Skeeter flips the town upside down when she writes a book revealing just how crucial "the help" is in maintaining their way of life.

A new international version of the trailer has been issued, and it's not all that different from some of the ones we've seen before. I'm calling this one the sleeper hit of the summer, so keep an eye out for it when hits on August 12th!

 PLOT
The Help stars Emma Stone (“Easy A”) as Skeeter, Academy Award®–nominated Viola Davis (“Doubt”) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.
