Amanda Righetti cast in The Avengers, but who will she play?

The most interesting thing about the latest casting for The Avengers isn't who has joined, but in who she might be playing.  TheDailyBlam reports that Amanda Righetti, co-star on the CBS crime series The Mentalist, has joined the film which is already well into shooting. That leads me to believe her role won't be all that big....at least not right now. 

If the roles she's supposedly playing turn out to be true, then it's likely her presence will only increase in subsequent films. The rumor is that she's up for one of two roles: S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, a niece of Peggy Carter(played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The First Avenger) and Cap love interest. Or Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel/Warbird/Binary. Danvers is one of the most respected members of The Avengers. Back in February it was rumored that Yvonne Strahovski(Chuck) was in line to play the character, but apparently that wasn't the case.

I've never seen a single moment of The Mentalist, but I'm familiar with Righetti from the recent Friday the 13th remake. I'll try not to hold that against her.

The Avengers hits theaters on May 4th 2012.
