Robert Rodriguez says Sin City 2 next on his list; Two Machete sequels in the works

I've learned to take almost everything Robert Rodriguez says with a handful of salt. Not that he's a liar or an exaggerator, it's just that he spills the beans on so many potential films that almost none of them get done. For years, since 2005 really, we've been hearing about a potential sequel to his uber violent noir, Sin City. There just always seems to be something else that goes forward just ahead of it, to the point where now I've turned a deaf ear to any word of it. The last time Rodriguez spoke on it was back in October, when he said yet again that he'd revisit that gritty, black and white world after he wrapped up Spy Kids 4.

Well today at Comic-Con he revealed that the sequel would indeed be next on his agenda, happening as soon as this year. Guh!!?? He revealed that he hopes to shoot it in 3D. Of course.  This all comes courtesy of ThePlaylist.  Sin City was adapted from Frank Miller's bloody crime comics, all of which dealing with a variety of shady characters in the fictional town of Basin City. Even the good guys have issues. Frank Miller adapted portions of a few of his stories for the film, and that appears to be the case this time as well. This time he provided a brand new story, titled The Long, Bad Night. He'll also include elements from what I think is the best of all his Sin City stories, A Dame to Kill For.

But that's not all Rodriguez mentioned, as he also revealed that two sequels to last year's Mexploitation flick, Machete, have been greenlit.  The sequel will be titled Machete Kills, and the third, which I'm not sure if he was joking about, will be a space opera titled Machete Kills Again. It'll feature a "machete shaped lightsaber". It's just insane enough to work.
