Trailer Time: Juan of the Dead

Y'know, it may seem like zombies are only interested in eating the brains of us here in the United States and our friends across the pond, but it's simply not true. Cuba, which has had more than it's own share of difficulties over the years, now has it's own personal issue with the undead.  It's been nearly a year since we saw the first  two teasers for Juan of the Dead, Alejandro Bruges's zombie horror with a healthy dose of comedy and social commentary. Now we've got the first full trailer, and I think it looks absolutely hysterical.

The film takes place 50 years after the Cuban Revolution, and an ordinary guy named Juan attempts to survive the influx of thousands of zombies. Where'd they come from? The United States, of course, or at least that's what the Cuban government says. I love that all the survivors seem more concerned with the zombies' nationality than actually escaping. The only thing that could make this better would be a cameo by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Bruges put this together for something like $3M, which makes it one of the most expensive films in Cuban history. It looks good, though, almost with a touch of District 9 or 28 Weeks Later. Here's hoping it gets picked up here in the States.
