Brit Marling in talks for Robert Redford's The Company you Keep

Every year you can count on there being at least one fresh faced star to emerge from the festival circuit. Some of them go on to channel that buzz into successful, creative careers(Parker Posey), while others sorta disappear(anybody remember Judy Marte?). This year's entry into the sweepstakes was Brit Marling, who wowed audiences by writing, producing, and starring in two films: The Sound of My Voice and  the sci-fi thinker Another Earth. But now she's making the jump to something that will likely put even more eyeballs on her, and she'll have a chance to work with one of Hollywood's true legends.

Variety reports that Marling is now in talks to play the female lead in Robert Redford's political thriller, The Company You Keep. Redford will direct the film, which sees him as a former political militant who has been in hiding for decades, until an ambitious young reporter exposes his identity, forcing him to go on the run. Shia Labeouf is set to play the reporter. Nick Nolte also has an unknown role. It had been rumored for the last few days that Redford was actively pursuing Marling for the part.

My reaction to Another Earth was lukewarm, but Marling's performance was probably the strongest element. I'll be interested in seeing where her career goes from here as she enters the mainstream.
