Sure Shots: Rise of the Planet of the Apes; Runaways; Bridget Jones' Diary 3

* Without spoiling anything, let's just say that the conclusion of Rise of the Planet of the Apes leaves the world in a precarious position. A position ripe for exploring in a potential sequel, and since the film has proven to be a box office hit, it was only a matter of time before we started hearing talk about a follow-up. The first comes from the film's writers, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, who told EW that the film, while able to stand on it's own, was envisioned as a possible trilogy. One of the cool things about Apes was how it sewed a lot of potential storyline ideas throughout, so there's a number of different ways a sequel could go.

* Runaways continues to be the Marvel film I'm most desperate to see made. The story centers on a group of California kids who discover their parents are a team of supervillains known as The Pride. The kids rebel against their parents and go into hiding, using their own newfound powers to fight back. The film has long had Peter Sollet(Raising Victor Vargas) attached to direct, with Drew Pearce's script being so good it got him the co-writing gig on Iron Man 3. However the film was put on hold last year unexpectedly, and now Pearce has revealed Marvel did that due to the focus being on The Avengers. He now hopes for a start date some time next year.  It should be noted that The Avengers director, Joss Whedon, is a huge Runaways fan and actually wrote the comic book for awhile. Last week I predicted Runaways would land in 2014, claiming one of the release dates Marvel recently booked.

* I'm not convinced all the news regarding Bridget Jones' Diary 3 wasn't started by Renee Zellwegger looking to draw attention to herself again. Last month we learned that Paul Feig(Bridesmaids) was in talks to direct the possible third film in the frumpy single chick series, and now we learn that Working Title is actually pushing ahead on it. Helen Fielding is working on a third book for the film to be based on, but no word on who might actually star. Would they possibly start over with a fresh new Bridget? One with some actual heat behind her? [EW]
