Pro wrestling superstar Kevin Nash joins the cast of Magic Mike
Ex-WWE and TNA wrestling superstar Kevin Nash just can't stay out of the spotlight. The 6 foot 10 inch former World Heavyweight Champion was one of the flagbearers of professional wrestlers turned actors. Certainly he was after the likes of Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan, and Jesse Ventura, but Nash's film debut in 1991's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 helped open doors to guys like Dwayne Johnson and Steve Austin. After a few years out of the biz, Nash has been a regular fixture on the wrestling scene again, back and signed with the WWE. But one thing he's not doing is giving up his Hollywood aspirations, and now he's booked for a film that should have him feeling right at home, performing for the crowd.
Nash has joined the cast of Magic Mike, the Steven Soderbergh-directed film based on Channing Tatum's beginnings as a male stripper. The film follows an experienced dancer(Tatum) who teaches a young upstart how to ply his trade and earn as many crumpled dollar bills from the ladies as possible. Nash will play another of the dancers at the club owned by Matthew McConaughey's character. Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Adam Rodriguez, Gabriel Iglesias, Joe Manganiello, Riley Keough, Olivia Munn, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cody Horn, and the newly signed Betsy Brandt(Breaking Bad) are set to star.
You can still find Nash every week(well, not right now but he'll be back soon) on WWE Monday Night Raw. He just finished starring in the Canadian horror-comedy, Monster Brawl, and will have a tiny part in the jukebox musical Rock of Ages. If you're interested in seeing Nash at his best, check him out as the surly Russian in The Punisher, or as Bass Armstrong in DOA: Dead or Alive.
Filming on Magic Mike should kick off any day now, with a release sometime in 2012. [Deadline]
