* Sony has picked up the film rights to UBISoft's wildly popular(over 30M copies sold) video game franchise, Assassin's Creed. The rather confusing storyline follows a regular guy who discovers he comes from a long line of assassins, but is then kidnapped by a mega corporation enable him to walk into the lives of his ancestors in order to locate valuable artifacts. It's more complicated than it sounds, and will likely be stripped down for the big screen. No word on who will direct or star, but expect info to drop on that soon. [Variety]
* Kathryn Bigelow(The Hurt Locker) and Mark Boal's Seal Team Six film, reportedly titled Kill Bin Laden, has been pushed back from it's October 2012 release date to something further down the line, possibly into 2013. I'd love to blame bigoted Republican congressman Peter King for this, and his calls for an investigation into whether the Obama administration was feeding Bigelow inside information on Bin Laden assassination, but it's more likely that Boal's rewrites on the script are taking longer than expected. Only Joel Edgerton(Warrior) is said to be attached to the film at this point, and whether or not this delay hurts his chances of starring is yet to be seen.
* Last month, Rooney Mara(David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) was rumored to be circling the female lead in Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy. Well, Variety is now reporting that Mara has turned down the role, which would have seen her starring opposite Josh Brolin and maybe Christian Bale as the bad guy.
