The Coen Brothers are many things, but stupid isn't one of them. All of their films have an authenticity to them that others fail to reach. Even an absurd flick like Raising Arizona makes sense in it's own little world. So for their folk music film, Inside Llewyn Davis, they've been seeking out actors with an equal musical talent. And now they're seeking to add the most talented actor/musician in the game today in Justin Timberlake.
Already starring Oscar Isaac(a former musician) and the vocally gifted Carey Mulligan(check out her singing in Steve McQueen's Shame), the film centers on a struggling folk musician in Greenwich Village who just can't seem to make ends meet despite his talents as a singer and guitarist. The role is said to be very loosely based on the life of Dave van Ronk, a part of the 1960 folk scene and close friends with Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and many others.
Timberlake would play Jim, another folk musician and the husband of Jean, played by Mulligan. It's unclear if their roles are based on actual living people or not.
From Alpha Dog to In Time, I'm diggin' the progression of Justin Timberlake's career. With the exception of Yogi Bear and The Love Guru, his recent filmography reads as good as anybody's. He's not taking any role thrown his way, and lately it's been paying off big time as he's getting work with some of the best directors in the business. [Variety]
