The Last Stand starts filming; adds Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, and Luis Guzman

Shooting has begun on Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to action hero status(rather than lame politician/adulterer status) in The Last Stand. The film marks the English language debut of South Korean director Kim Ji-Woon(I Saw the Devil), and follows small town Sheriff Owens in a quiet border town, after leaving his job with the LAPD in disgrace. He gets an unexpected wake up call when a notorious drug lord busts from a prisoner convoy and starts speeding for the border with his gang in a specially outfitted vehicle. It's up to Owens and his team to intercept them and make the last stand to prevent him from escaping.

Lionsgate has also released the full cast listing for the film, and there are a handful of big names coming on board. Oscar winner Forest Whitaker(The Last King of Scotland), non-Oscar winner Johnny Knoxville(Jackass), Harry Dean Stanton(Big Love), and Luis Guzman(Boogie Nights) are the newest additions. They'll join Rodrigo Santoro, Jaime Alexander, Eduardo Noriega, and Zach Gilford.

No word on who any of the new additions will play. But Forest Whitaker as a police chief or FBI lead investigator or something? Sounds right to me. And what about Knoxville? I get a Walking Tall vibe from this(in terms of scope, anyway), so he seems like a natural fit.

The Last Stand is expected to hit theaters on January 18th 2013.
