First look at Alexander Payne's 'Nebraska' with Will Forte and Bruce Dern
It was a surprise when Alexander Payne's The Descendants performed as well as it did back in 2011, earning nearly $180M and scoring an Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay. It had been seven years since his previous film, and even with George Clooney racing around Hawaii like a crazy man, it still looked like art house fodder more than anything else. So expectations are understandably high for his folllow-up, Nebraska, and the first official image is now here.
Debuting at Cannes later this month, Nebraska stars Bruce Dern as an aging, alcoholic father who thinks he's one $1M Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes, and decides to take the long journey from Montana to Nebraska to claim it. SNL vet Will Forte plays his son who accompanies him, even though he doesn't believe he's actually won anything.
Payne was holding onto the script for a lot of years before finally taking it on, and apparently there was some behind-the-scenes haggling with Paramount to present the film in black and white as he intended. Nebraska opens in limited release on November 22nd.[USA Today]
