Brian Grazer replaces Brett Ratner as producer of The Oscars
Normally I could give two craps about who produces the Academy Awards. The show is boring as all Hell anyway, and no matter who hosts, writes, produces, or caters the thing it's going to be about 30 minutes too long and terribly disappointing. Period. But this one was interesting only in that blabbermouthed hack Brett Ratner was going to be producing, with his Tower Heist star Eddie Murphy hosting. I'm sure Chris Tucker would've shown up somewhere, maybe to interrupt the In Memoriam segment with a screechy "You got knocked the F**K out, man!!".
Alas, we'll never find out as Ratner recently stepped down after a flurry of media appearances that can at best be labeled "unfortunate", and painted the filmmaker as a sleazy, homophobic douchebag with no filter between his brain and his big ass mouth. He also appears to hate women. Or maybe it's just Olivia Munn. Who he banged. And bragged about. His resignation letter did sound sincere, and he didn't do the typical "non apology apology", so I'll give him credit for that. Eddie Murphy, perhaps sensing that his role in the show would be greatly diminished without Ratner on board, also departed. While nobody has stepped in to replace Murphy yet, we do know who'll fill Ratner's shoes.
Super producer Brian Grazer(Apollo 13) will take on the gig, which should be an immediate upgrade from Ratner. There is one thing to remember, though. Grazer is also one of the producers on Tower Heist, so what are the chances he asks Ben Stiller to host? Would anybody be surprised?
