New poster for John Carter, starring Taylor Kitsch

Disney is pulling out all the stops to make sure you don't forget about John Carter this holiday season. While the sci-fi/fantasy epic doesn't arrive until March 9th, after a lukewarm response to the trailer released a few months ago, the studio has to take advantage of the busiest month of the movie season, and so they've been releasing new images at a rapid clip over the past week. A new trailer will debut later next month, but for now we'll have to settle with this poster.

Based on the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Taylor Kitsch stars as the titular ex-soldier, who is whisked away under mysterious circumstances to the planet Mars. There he becomes embroiled in a dispute amongst the planet's inhabitants. Willem Dafoe, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, and Mark Strong make up the supporting cast.

To be honest, I think Disney dropped the ball when they changed the name from "John Carter of Mars", but that's nothing compared to the mistake they made by pouring in a truckload of cash into this flick. Taylor Kitsch is an unproven star, and while Burroughs' novels are great, on screen the alien creatures and far off worlds seem all too familiar. Maybe the next trailer will change my mind.
