* Martin Campbell could use a hit. Seriously. The guy might have directed James Bond's comeback film with Casino Royale, but what's he given us since? The terribly boring Mel Gibson thriller Edge of Darkness, and the biggest flop of the summer in Green Lantern. Told ya. So Campbell appears to be circling a safe film of sorts, as Deadline reports he's in early talks to direct a big screen adaptation of hit 1980s TV series, The Fall Guy. Starring Lee Majors, the show followed a Hollywood stuntman who along with his cool GMC pickup truck and his sexy sidekick played by Heather Thomas. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz(X-men: First Class) are writing the script.
* Eddie Murphy may find himself more in demand now than in the last decade after Tower Heist hits theaters. Not only is he hosting the Oscars next year, but he's also in the process of writing a comedy that would feature an all-black ensemble cast similar to when Murphy starred in Harlem Nights all those years ago. Such a good movie. Anyway, the film he's writing has the implausible title of Jamal and Tyrell and Omar and Brick and Michael’s Wack-Ass Weekend, "about a group of friends abducted by aliens on the way to the fights." I worry about Murphy the writer(Norbit, anyone?), but depending on who he casts this could be great. [Moviehole]
* Last week's surprise announcement of Joss Whedon's having written and directed Much Ado About Nothing, based in some way on the Shakespeare play, was just the opening salvo of what's in store from the filmmaker's new production company, Bellweather Pictures. The next is another Whedon scripted affair titled, In Your Eyes. Directed by Brian Hill, the low budget flick is described by Deadline as a "metaphysical love story about two seemingly polar opposites who are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined."
