Tony Scott to direct drug trade flick, Narco Sub
It's Monday, so that means one of the Scott brothers has added another directing project to their crowded schedule. This time it's Tony, and with the half a dozen or so other flicks he's got swirling around, he's now added Narco Sub, from uber-hot writer David Guggenheim(Safe House).
Variety has the story, noting that the film is being compared to Scott's great submarine thriller, Crimson Tide, but mixed with a little bit of his Man on Fire as well. Seriously? On paper that sounds amazing, but with few details being revealed it's hard to say just how close those comparisons are. South American drug cartels use narco subs, which are semi-submersible crafts, to smuggle cocaine into the United States. So it's safe to say they'll be an integral part of the story.
Maybe one of these subs will get away and start barrelling towards a yacht full of grade schoolers on a field trip and only a brave but beleaguered boatman(played by Denzel Washington of course) can stop it in time? Just an idea.
Scott's got at least five other flicks brewing, with the most visible being a possible Top Gun sequel, and an adaptation of John Grisham's The Associate. So just add this to the pile. Eventually one of them's going to have to get made, and Narco Sub seems as likely as any at this point.
