Trailer Time: Gone, starring Amanda Seyfried
I'm generally pretty high on Amanda Seyfried's future, even though her recent films have squandered the buzz she had after Mama Mia, and last year's surprise hits Dear John and Letters to Juliet. Red Riding Hood was a comical disaster, and while I liked In Time, it ironically died a rapid death at the box office. The best move she can make is to continue to push the envelope in movies that present her in new and unexpected ways. She's taking the first step in doing just that by taking on the role of porn star Linda Lovelace(Deep Throat) in an upcoming biopic. But before that, she has Gone, a thriller from Brazilian director Heitor Dhalia and...well, her bright future might be a little delayed.
Looking like a Lifetime made-for-TV movie(I can see Jamie Luner in the lead already), Seyfried stars as Jill, a woman who turns to the police when her sister is apparently kidnapped by the man who tried to murder Jill previously. When the cops don't quite buy her story, Jill takes matters into her own hands. It looks like a younger skewing version of The Brave One to me, which is not a good thing.
The cast is solid, though, so maybe it'll play better than this trailer does. Jennifer Carpenter(Dexter), Daniel Sunjata(The Devil Wears Prada), Wes Bentley, Michael Pare, and Joel David Moore(Avatar) co-star. I'm gonna go ahead and call it now. Joel David Moore is the bad guy. That's my guess. Gone opens on February 24th....
