2011 WAFCA Award winners!
Diversity marked the winners of this year's WAFCA Awards, presented by the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association. Of all 15 categories, only three films(The Artist, The Descendants, Hugo) took home two awards each, while the rest were solo winners.
Movies that celebrated a love of cinematic history took the top two categories, with Michael Hazanavicius' black and white silent film, The Artist, taking home Best Picture. Martin Scorsese won Best Director for his 3D adventure film, Hugo. Best Actor went to George Clooney for The Descendants, an award he also won from the group back in 2009 for Up in the Air. Michelle Williams took home Best Actress for her stunning performance as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn.
Best Animated Feature went to Rango, which featured the voice of Johnny Depp as a lizard on an existential quest. Werner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams took home the award for Best Documentary, while in a move some will see as a surprise, Bridesmaids won for Best Acting Ensemble. The always competitive supporting categories produced a couple of surprises, with Albert Brooks winning for his villainous turn in Drive, and Octavia Spencer scoring for her fiery performance in The Help.
