Dan Akroyd cast in the Ferrell/Galifianakis political comedy, 'Dog Fight'

Where's Dan Akroyd been lately? The former SNL vet and comedy icon has been busier than you might think. When he's not getting a script for Ghostbusters 3 shredded and unceremoniously dumped on his doorstep by Bill Murray, he still finds time for the occasional role, like being the lead voice in Yogi Bear or showing up for a couple episodes of The Defenders(is that show still on??).

It's been four years since we actually saw his face on the silver screen, though, and he's set to make his return in the promising political comedy, Dog Fight. Akroyd should feel right at home amongst this cast of comedic heavyweights, with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis starring as two rival politicians jockeying for votes in a small, southern congressional district. Jason Sudeikis, Brian Cox, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, and Will Forte co-star. Akroyd's role is unclear at this point

Jay Roach is directing, and he seems to have a particular fondness for the political process. He previously directed the HBO film about the 2000 presidential election scam, Recount, and just finished wrapping up Game Change, on the 2008 campaign. Dog Fight should hit theaters on August 10th, but really, does it have a prayer of being as loopy as the real life Republican primaries? [Moviehole]
