Low budget American Psycho remake in the works

Patrick Bateman is about to start killing again, and he'll be perfectly moisturized while doing it. Lionsgate has decided to make the misguided move of remaking American Psycho, the 2000 film based on the awesome novel by Bret Easton Ellis. Christian Bale played the Wall Street yuppie/metrosexual Bateman, who beneath his cool exterior was a mentally unstable serial killer. While the film didn't exactly set the box office on fire, it's become a cult favorite for it's dark humor and Ellis' typically bleak perspective on the upper class.

Noble Jones, who I've never heard of in my life but apparently has a Grammy nomination under his belt for something, will tackle the script and direct, with his plan to bring Bateman into modern day New York. That immediately tells me somebody didn't read the book or completely missed the point. Whatever. Lionsgate sees this as a micro-budgeted production, although the first one only cost like $7M so....how small are they talkin' about? Certainly it won't be as cheap as the terrible straight-to-DVD American Psycho sequel starring Mila Kunis?

So for all you Bret Easton Ellis fans(like yours truly) who were hyped over Roger Avary directing Glamorama next year? Consider this the cold rain on your little parade. [Deadline]
