Sure Shots: Harrison Ford; Katherine Heigl; Alexandre Aja

* Well, that's two down. First it was Robert Redford, and most recently it was Jack Nicholson sought to play Brooklyn Dodgers exec Branch Rickey in 42, the planned biopic on the barrier breaking baseball star, Jackie Robinson. Deadline reports that writer/director Brian Helgeland is now turning his attention to Harrison Ford for the part. No word on if an offer has been made or if this is just a wishlist thing, but Ford could use a hit in something without the words Indiana Jones in the title. He's also circling a role in the sci-fi adaptation, Ender's Game.

* The Perk-bot 2000 identified as Katherine Heigl is finally looking to do something that might require her to do more than look pretty. She's set to produce and star in The Follower, a thriller with a script by Tony Giglio(Death Race 2). Plot details haven't been revealed yet, but anything to get her away from rom-coms for a little while. [Variety]

* Shia Labeouf may be gone, but there's a much more valuable addition to Horns, the adaptation of Joe Hill's creepy fantasy/crime novel. Alexandre Aja, the stlyish director behind Piranha 3D and High Tension, is set to direct the film with a script by Keith Bunin. The story follows Ig Perrish, who wakes up one morning to discover that his head has sprouted horns, and he has a slew of new powers at his command. He uses his abilities to uncover the mystery behind the rape and murder of his girlfriend. Aja is a hit or miss director, but even the stinkers like Mirrors and The Hills Have Eyes look great. It's nice to see him not doing a remake for once. although he's still attached to one for Pet Semetary. [THR]
