Sure Shots: Saoirse Ronan; Jay Baruchel; Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
* Saoirse Ronan(Hanna) continues her string of interesting career choices. The young and ultra talented actress will star in How I Live Now, from director Kevin MacDonald(The Last King of Scotland). She'll play Daisy, a New York City girl who goes to the English countryside to spend the summer with family. However when WWII breaks out, she and another girl are forced to flee and survive in the woods while attempting to find safety. Ronan has a lot on her plate right now, as she's currently filming Neil Jordan's vampire flick, Byzantium. She also has lined up a dual role in The Host, based on the novel by Stephanie Meyer(Twilight).
* More movies about 80s rock bands? Are studios buying them by the gross or something? Jay Baruchel(She's Out of My League) will topline The Rebel Kind, based on a novel by Buck Cherry, frontman for The Modernettes. Nope, never heard of 'em. Apparently they were big in Vancouver or something. The equally unknown Reg Harkema will direct, with production set to begin next fall. [Variety]
* Y'know I still haven't seen Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs? It just looked to kiddie for my tastes but a lot of people I respect swear by it. It'll have to be tops on my list now that the sequel appears to be shaping up, with Cody Cameron(Open Season 3) and Kris Pearn hired to direct. The original pair of Chris Lord and Phil Miller will exec-produce. The film has yet to be officially greenlit, but with the last one making north of $240M, it's all but academic.
