The Amazing Spider-Man official website reveals new images and confirms sequels

Not one to let Christopher Nolan and that sourpuss Batman hog all of the spotlight, Sony Pictures has been showing us a lot from The Amazing Spider-Man in the last few days. The studio's plan of attack is still a bit wobby, as evidenced by their most recent one-sheets which can't seem to decide if the film is cheerful and upbeat, or dark and grim. Hopefully it's the former.

The official website for The Amazing Spider-Man has launched, and with it comes a batch of new images and character banners, which you can check out further down. In the "Story" section of the site, you'll get a very brief, bare bones synopsis of the plot, but also a confirmation that Marc Webb's film is just the "first in a series", which isn't really telling us anything we didn't suspect, but we now have some confirmation.

There is a bit of a twist to one of the film's few secrets, surrounding Irrfan Khan's character, previously referred to as Van Adder. This led many to believe he'd be playing a version of Nels Van Adder, aka the Proto-Goblin. In the site's cast listing, the character's name has been changed to Dr. Ratha. Doesn't mean he won't still be a bad guy, though. The Amazing Spider-Man swings into your friendly neighborhood theater on July 3rd....
