Diane Kruger will seek out Saoirse Ronan in 'The Host'

Diane Kruger has the kind of beautiful face that could put nations at war. Don't believe me? She played the woman who did that very thing in Troy way back in 2004. Not one to rely solely on her good looks, the German actress has built up a solid and diverse resume that sees her bouncing from smaller foreign films (Joyeux Noel, Mr. Nobody) to Hollywood blockbusters(National Treasure, Inglourious Basterds). Her next project will see her jumping into the cinematic cesspool of young adult novel adaptations, and one that promises to have a lot of eyeballs on it.

She'll be joining Saoirse Ronan, Jake Abel, William Hurt, and Max Irons in the super confusing sci-fi romance, The Host. Based on a novel by Twilight scribe Stephanie Meyer, the story takes place in a future earth where benevolent alien "souls" take over the bodies and minds of their human hosts. An older soul named Wanderer joins with a strong willed woman named Melanie Stryder(Ronan plays both roles), and is overwhelmed by the power of her emotions, never able to gain full control.

Kruger will play the Seeker, responsible for fully converting Melanie as a means of squashing the last of her rebel faction. Yeah, there are human rebels involved. Also the weirdest love triangle ever with two men in love with Wanderer and Melanie....who are....in the same body? That would be like a love rhombus or something, right? Whatever.

Andrew Niccol(Gattaca) both wrote the script and will direct, and while some may have found his recent stuff like In Time to be disappointing, I loved it. He knows his way around high concept science fiction and this certainly qualifies. The Host is set to open on March 29th 2013. [Deadline]
