From country to folk: Garrett Hedlund joins The Coen Brothers' 'Inside Llewyn Davis'

The Coen Brothers are sticking with their plan to enlist musically inclined actors for their folk music film, Inside Llewyn Davis. With Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, and Justin Timberlake already on board, the Coens have now brought in Garrett Hedlund for an unspecified role. If you were able to sit through the abysmal Country Strong a couple of years ago, then Hedlund's vocal chops were probably a surprise. The dude has a solid voice, and obviously the Coens agree.

The story is loosely based on the life of 1960s folk music icon, Dave van Ronk, who was a fixture of the Greenwich Village scene alongside the likes of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Isaac is in the title role, as a musician who just can't seem to make ends meet despite his popularity.   F. Murray Abraham, Jeanine Seralles and John Goodman round out what is shaping up to be one hell of an assemblage of talent.

Now that Akira is on the backburner, nobody has to worry about Garrett Hedlund's schedule fouling things up. Shooting should begin shortly, which to me sounds like we can expect a Coen Brothers return to the Oscar race. [Variety]
