'Yes Man' writers hired for 'Bruce Almighty' sequel

God has spoken, and clearly he wants a Bruce Almighty sequel. Last June, Jim Carrey started discussing the possibility of returning to the nearly $500M-grossing comedy(along with Dumb and Dumber), which had him as a man given the powers of God for a week. With Carrey's star power fading, he's in desperate need of a hit franchise to call his own. Mr. Popper's Penguins isn't going to cut it.

So it makes sense for Carrey to dip his toes back into the Bruce Almighty pool, and apparently Universal is keen to join him. The studio has hired Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel to pen the script. The duo were behind Carrey's last legitimate hit film, Yes Man, back in 2008.

After the success of Bruce Almighty, Steve Carell took over with the awful Evan Almighty, which nobody seemed to care much for. Ironically, Carell and Carrey are set to pair pair up the promising comedy, Burt Wonderstone. Maybe if the two get along on set we'll possibily see Carell pop in for a cameo? And what about Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman? I wouldn't bet on Tom Shadyac to return as director, though. Even though he helmed both "Almighty' flicks, he hasn't been around much the last few years. [Variety]
