'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' bumped to January 2013

Those who thought the release of the first image from Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters meant that we'd be seeing a trailer or anything for the fairy tale action flick are going to be sorely disappointed. Initially set to be released in March, Paramount has now pushed the movie back almost an entire year, all the way to January 11th 2013. Any confidence I had this would at least be a decent popcorn flick have now been dashed.

Directed by Tommy Wirkola(Dead Snow), the film stars franchise whore Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton(Conan the Barbarian) as the fairy tale characters who survived becoming witch food as children, and grew up to become bad ass killers armed with ridiculous weaponry.

While the move is troubling, there may be a method to Paramount's madness. By the time the film hits, Renner's popularity should be at an all-time high after The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy. If those two movies pan out the way some expect, Hansel & Gretel may turn out to be a January box office heavyweight.
