James Franco is the ultimate pick-up artist in 'The Game'
If you've never seen alleged chick magnet, Mystery, on television before then count yourself lucky. The guy looks like the poster child for www.hotchickswithdouchebags.com, while The Pick-Up Artist, the VH1 reality show he spawned will make you want to scrub your brain with bleach. I certainly never thought we'd see a movie about him, and if we did, that somebody like James Franco would be the guy to play him.
That's exactly what's happening, though, as Franco has signed on to The Game, based on Neil Strauss' bestselling memoir about his time spent among the seduction community. Attending seminars from guys like Mystery, he learns the tricks of the trade when it comes to baggin' chicks and dominating any relationships with women. Basically it shows you how to be a narcissist and not have people get turned off by it.
No word on who will play Strauss, but with Brian Koppelman and David Levien writing and directing you can bet they'll get someone good. The duo last tackled the underrated Michael Douglas dramedy, Solitary Man. They also wrote Rounders and The Girlfriend Experience, both of which were incisive looks at a segment of society most people will never know or understand. So this is right up their alley. [THR]
