Kristen Wiig gives the final word on a 'Bridesmaids' sequel

It has to be a sad morning at Universal today. For months, they've been amped to try and get the band back together for a sequel to Bridesmaids, their surprise R-rated comedy hit from last year. With over $280M in worldwide receipts, it seemed like a no-brainer. At least in theory.

But over time we've seen a number of the film's talented cast voice hesitation over it. Everyone from producer Judd Apatow to breakout star Melissa McCarthy. Kristen Wiig, who starred and co-wrote the film with Annie Mumolo, has been less vocal, but during that time Universal was courting her to return. The consensus has been that if Wiig and the rest of the cast don't come back, nobody's coming back. While talking to E! Online[via Comingsoon], Wiig appears to have finally made up her mind....

Wiig says in regards to Bridesmaids 2 that they are "not planning on doing one". And that "we're really excited to try something else". What exactly is "something else"? All we know is that it will be a comedy, and will re-team her with Mumolo on the writing side.

It's not as if Wiig doesn't have enough to do. She'll be seen next in the indie comedy, Friends with Kids, alongside her Bridesmaids co-stars Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph, and Chris O'Dowd. After that she'll be starring with Annette Bening in Imogene, not to mention the Errol Morris cryogenics comedy, Freezing People is Easy. And let's not forget she's a part of Sean Penn's next directorial effort, a serious project ironically titled The Comedian, and starring Robert De Niro.
