Sure Shots: Cormac McCarthy; 'The Expendables 2'; Tinker Bell
* Cormac McCarthy has seen a number of his novels turned into movies before. No Country for Old Men, The Road, All the Pretty Horses...but it always seems to take forever adapting his work. Not surprising considering their complexity. So for once, McCarthy decided to just do the job himself for his next film project, although this one isn't an adaptation. He's just sold his first original screenplay, titled The Counselor, and it sounds like classic McCarthy. It centers on a highly respect lawyer who attempts to dabble in the drug trade and get back out without a scratch, but soon finds himself in dire straits. Producers are seeking funding for the film now, and will then begin the search for a director. James Franco's been trying to get a couple of McCarthy adaptations off the ground for awhile, so why not him? [Deadline]
* The Expendables 2 looks like it will be rated PG-13, and we've got Walker, Texas Ranger to blame for it. Chuck Norris told Gazeta, a Polish newspaper, that he wouldn't allow himself to be part of a film with so much "vulgar dialogue", because young people wouldn't be able to watch it. >sigh< Producers apparently gave in to his demands. In typical right wing lunatic fashion, Norris is all concerned about the impropriety of a few bad words, but couldn't care less about being in a film where everyone is being mowed down by automatic gunfire for 90 minutes. Whatever, dude. Here's hoping we get an uncut version of the film on Blu-Ray.
* Whoa! I had totally forgotten about Disney's planned live-action film based on the popular Peter Pan character, Tinker Bell. Elizabeth Banks is developing it and planning to star as the temperamental fairy. We haven't heard anything about it since July of 2010, but Banks provided a bit of an update to Moviehole. She says they are still in the writing stage, with Marti Noxon(Buffy the Vampire Slayer) handling that end of things. Adam Shankman and McG are two of the film's producers, and the story will have Tinker Bell kicked out of Never Never Land. With so little movement over such a long period of time, we may never see this one get completed, but one can hope.
